Police seize harmful weapons in Maungdaw Town

Maungdaw, Arakan State:  Police personnel of Maungdaw Town seized harmful weapons from Rohingya villagers of Maungdaw town today in the morning, according to local villagers.
Today, at about 5:00 am, many police personnel went to Bumu Para (village) of Maungdaw Town and surrounded the village and searched harmful weapons. The police seized the— knife, spades, dagger, chopper, axe, pickaxes, mattock, hoe, and slingshot excluding the Rakhine villagers. Bumu Para is mixed of Rohingya and Rakhine people. The policemen returned to their station at around 10:00 am.

A female villager said, in Maungdaw Township, though the Rakhine people with the help of security forces especially police and Hluntin— attacked Rohingya villages with the lethal weapons of slingshots, catapults and daggers. But, police seized only from Rohingyas not from Rakhine villagers. At present, Rohingya villagers have no daggers in the kitchens to chop the vegetables. As a result, house wives are facing to make curry for the family members.
“It is other kinds of harassment to the Rohingya community. Taking the kitchen daggers from every house is not a safety measurement taking by authority. It is only for face saving from the world community.  The reality is to increase security forces in the areas who have impartiality to decide any problem if occurred,” said a local elder on condition of anonymity.
Besides, today, the Nasaka personnel from Pandawpin Bridge – on Maungdaw-Alay Than Kyaw highway — check-post, nearby Kadir Bill village of Maungdaw south are checking Rohingya women with female Nasaka personnel, but, reason is unknown, said a local trader.
