Rohingya border pass travelers beaten up by Rakhine youths


Maungdaw, Arakan State:Some of the Rohingya border pass travelers were beaten up by Rakhine youths in front of the old cinema hall – Hluntin out post where mostly Rakhine youths stay with them – Maungdaw Town and looted their goods while they were going to their homes after returning from Bangladesh with one day border pass on August 1, according to a man who crossed Burma- Bangladesh border with border pass.
“This matter was appraised to the Nasaka personnel of Maungdaw exit/entry gate, but the Nasaka denied taking any action against the Rakhine culprits. The Rakhine youths blocked while the Rohingya travelers returned on the way to their home, so they stayed overnight a nearby Rohingya village named Ukil Para ( Auck Ywa) for their safety.”
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) asked Burma border security force (Nasaka) to maintain the security of Bangladesh visitors in Maungdaw, otherwise closed the border crossing with pass, according to BGB source. “Two women of Bangladeshi tourists were catapulted by Nyo Nyo- a Rakhine youth- while they were walking near the Kambaza bank in Maungdaw town on August 29 which was informed to Nasaka and BGB.”.
This is a kind of harassment to the Rohingya community in front of the security forces by Rakhine community when the Rohingya people are met on the road. Security forces pretend not to see any incident between Rakine and Rohingya community while they are present nearby the event.  The Rakhine Community will not dare to commit any crime against the Rohingya community if the government does not encourage them, said a school teacher from Maungdaw.

Young girl detained and raped at Maungdaw


Maungdaw Arakan State: A young Rohingya girl has been raped   by Nasaka personnel at Pan Daw Pyin bridge Nasaka out-post of Maungdaw- Aley Than Kyawa road under the Maungdaw Township on August 31, said a local villager on condition of anonymity.
The victim was identified as Sara (not real name) daughter of late Kalu (not real name), hailed from Baggona village of Maungdaw south. She was picked up by Nasaka personnel when she was crossing the bridge. She was returning from Maungdaw town after marketing for her home.  A Nasaka out- post is established  near the bridge for bridge security and the Nasaka  also collects 300-500 kyats per head who crossing the bridge( it is only for Rohingya community).
“When relatives asked the Nasaka of out-post, they replied that there is no Rohingya girl here,” said   a trade from the locality.
She was raped there and regarding this, nobody knew about this matter, said a young eyewitness, a market goer.

Nasaka extorts money from villagers in Maungdaw north


Maungdaw Arakan State: Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) recently extorted money from villagers of Maungdaw north by threatening the villages to arrest by implicating them —- receiving guests, holding mobile sets and involving in June 8 incident which was occurred at Maungdaw  Town, said a local businessman who denied to be named.
“ On the nights of August 31, and September 1, a group of Nasaka led by Nasaka captain of Nari Bill out-posts camp  with the collaboration of Village Chairman Kolimullah ( 35),  and village Ra- Inn- Gon ( head of the 100-house) Salim Ullah went to the  said village and asked the villagers to open the door. But, villagers did not open the door when they heard the voice of Nasaka. So, the Nasaka pretended as Sarapa, and the villagers opened the door at night. In such way, the Nasaka arrested the following villagers to extort money. “
The arrested villagers were identified as—Shamshul Alam ( 50), son of Osiur Rahman, hailed from Nari Bill south, Haidi  Rahman  ( 40), son of Sayed Hussain, hailed from Nari Bill south, Boshor ( 45), hailed from Nari  wife of Mohamed Khasim, hailed from Nari Bill east,  Ms Zurah (30), wife of Mohamed Siddique, hailed from Nari Bill west, Mohamed Rafique (20), son of Khbir Hussain, hailed from Nari Bill west and Haji Mohamed Shoffee (70), son of Abdul Majid, hailed from Nari Bill west.
However, they were released after taking Kyat 100.000 to 150,000 per head according to their family status, according to villagers.
Besides, the Human Trafficking Protection Department in Maungdaw Township also collecting money from the illiterate poor Rohingya villagers over the allegation that they are being implicated with human trafficking, said a local trader  on condition of anonymity.

Army destroys market, loots and beats up people at Thaman Tha, Maungdaw


Maungdaw, Arakan State:  More than 40 army personnel went to the Fokira Bazar ( Thaman Tha) from Medike army camp of Maungdaw Township  and surrounded the whole market and arbitrary beaten up the people where the army met in the market and looted cash and goods from the marker etc.,on September 1, at about 2:00 pm, said a one of the shopkeepers of Fokira Bazar
The army also destroyed some shops in the market. Many people were wounded but not received any information of dead.
“Why the armies suddenly do such kinds of incident, we do not know the facts,” said a village elder with very disappointed from the locality.”
Another local elder said, “In advance, we know that army will do some things in the village or in the market.”
“On the other hand, government announced, the western Arakan state became calm, security forces controlled the situation.” But, in practical, the security forces—army, Hluntin, police, Sarapa, and Nasaka are committing crimes against Rohingya community in daily basis,” said a politician from Maungdaw

Villages’ admin force students to go school in Maungdaw


Maungdaw, Arakan State: The village administrators are forcing Rohingya students to go the school (High School) by request of headmaster U Kyaw Zaw Htun on August 30, according to a parent from Maungdaw.
“The headmaster of High school delivered a notice to all villages admin, students and parents to send their children to school which the headmaster wanted to show it is peacefull and all the student are learning in the school.”
But, the headmaster mention in his notices that of the school divided the classes into two sections— morning and evening sections. In the morning section, the Rakhine students are being taught, and the Bangali (for Rohingya) students are in the evening section. Which seen that the school authority is imposing racism in the education sector. He forcefully using the words “Bangali” instate of “Rohingya”.
There were 40 Rohingya students in the evening on August 30, but the school authority made problem with Rohingya student while saluting the Union Flag.The school authority forced the Rohingya students to bow down their head which is against the religious and traditional of Rohingya. So, student refused to do it, said a student. “We give respect and salute our union flag by lifting  right hands to our foreheads. It is our tradition.”
“If the school authority is going with this system, we will attend the school and we will study in the home not at school. We need all together at school.In the evening, the teachers are not teaching us, so why we lost our time,” said a student of class ten.
The Rohingya students have to fill a Form, which is provided by the school headmaster, which has a blank of Race. Rohingya students are forced to fill the blank – Bengali race – instead of Rohingya. Therefore, Rohingya students are disappointed and returned homes.
After the skirmishes between Rakhine and Rohingya community since June (8), the High School of Myo Ma Kayandan of Maungdaw Town was closed.

Floating Rohingya dead bodies under Maungdw Jeety


Maungdaw, Arakan State: Three Rohingya dead bodies have been floating under the Maungdaw Jetty of Maungdaw Town since August 30, according to fishing men who work inside the stream.
“This was seen by some fishermen while they were pushing their nets in the Kayan Khali stream.   Hearing the news, local villagers tried to save and to bring the dead bodies; but, they were not able to do so as the security forces were patrolling there,” said a youth from the locality.
Rohingya people are kept in the village by imposing emergency Act 144 and state of curfew while other community is freely moving to attack the Rohingya community with the help of security forces. Rohingya people are unable to know who are arrested, killed by security forces such as —-police, Hluntin (riot police), Sarapa (Military Intelligence), army, and Nasaka (Burma’s border security force), said a local elder.

Nasaka arrest four youths


Maungdaw, Arakan State: Yesterday, Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) arrested two Rohingya youths while they were sitting in a village sentry house at about 4:00 pm, a local elder said preferring not to be named.
The victims were identified as Noor Kabir (22), son of Abdu Rajak and Arafat (25), son of Abdu Salam. Both of them hailed from Naribill village of Maungdaw north.
They were arrested by the Nasaka of Naribill out-post camp of Maungdaw township.
After arrest, they were brought to the Nasaka camp where they were detained. They are the students of class ten.
However, they were released after taking Kyat 100,000 per each.
A local elder said, “What are the faults of the victims.”
Besides, on August 29, Ramuya (28), Lita (40), Yonus (25), son of Kafetullah were arrested by Nasaka (Burma’s border security force) of Udaung Nasaka camp of Maungdaw south. They all belong to Udaung village of Maungdaw Township. The Nasaka with the collaborator on of U Thein Maung  ( Rakhine), the village chairman harass the Udaung villagers in daily basis, said a local elder from the village who denied to be named.

Woman dies for delivery case at Maungdaw


Maungdaw, Arakan State: A pregnant woman was dead today at about 2:00 am for the lack of medical treatment at Maungdaw north, said a relative of the victim on condition of anonymity.
“The dead body was identified as Ms. Tareso (32), wife of Feros Ahmed, hailed from Borgoa Bill village of Kyauk Hla Gaar village tract of Maungdaw Township.”
Yesterday, she was serious condition, so her husband and her parents tried to send her to Maungdaw General Hospital, but, they were barred to go hospital because the time was 7:30 pm. There is curfew, which is still imposed from 5:00 am to 7:00 pm.
As result, they didn’t able to take her to the hospital for delivery case. However, the woman gave to birth a dead baby at about 11:00 pm. After giving birth, the woman became very critical condition.
After four hours later of giving birth, the mother was dead, said her neighbor.
There are many pregnant women in north Arakan died of delivery case for the lack of medical treatment as they are not allowed to admit at hospital. If the Rohingya women get admission in hospital, they will not get proper treatment in the hospital, said schoolteacher from the locality.
